EPISODE 92 · October 31, 2026
This Week's Worst: The White House's Morally Bankrupt PR Stunt
What happens when 12 Catholic bishops visit the White House in good faith, only to discover their sacred act of prayer has been turned into a political publicity stunt? On October 22, Catholic bishops met with White House officials to discuss immigration enforcement, religious worker visas, and human dignity. But what happened afterward in the Oval Office left religious leaders feeling betrayed. White House communications advisor Margo Martin posted a video of the bishops praying with President Trump, even though the bishops reportedly had no knowledge they were being recorded and had not authorized the video's release. When questioned, White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers offered no meaningful explanation. In this episode of Fiercely Independent's This Week's Worst, Chris examines how a meeting intended to address serious humanitarian concerns became a political PR opportunity, and why the White House communications team's refusal to accept responsibility raises a much larger question about moral bankruptcy. Because financial bankruptcy is one thing. Moral bankruptcy is something else entirely.
